I was given a laptop from someone at somewhere to support my work. And I choose HP Presario 3412 with its AMD Processor. Why? Because I’m very impressed with AMD’s speed and new technology. The notebook essential kit for travellers and additional 512 MB RAM make this laptop enough for me and so total RAM is 1 GB. The notebook shop at Ratu Plaza cost me 8.49 million rupiahs.

The default operating system is Windows Vista Home Basic. Unfortunately I can’t explore much with new Microsoft Operating System since it’s too complex (accord to my humble opinion). I love using Windows XP, FreeBSD, Ubuntu/Debian/Fedora distribution. So the new laptop make me more headache.

I’m dreaming using FreeBSD desktop and trying to install on it. But what happen? Since the box is using AMD Turion X2 64 bit, and I installed FreeBSD 64 bit. It fail, fail and fail…

Then second probation was installing FreeBSD i386 for old 32 bit operating system. And I got different error message. Because I want a native FreeBSD OS on my laptop, and you know, finally i give up at this time. I currently using both Vista and Ubuntu using GRUB loader.

Until now, I still can’t use FreeBSD and remove all Vista OS. Because Vista has complete drivers and guided me what driver can’t be load on other OS. And second, my Indosat’s 3G internet Connection which using ZTE 3G Modem, just has software drivers on Vista/XP. The experiment on Ubuntu 7.10 has not give any solutions yet.
