Indonesia domain renewal deadline

I have eight Indonesian domain with .id extension. And today, Oct 31, 2007 is the deadline to renew. Last month on the end of September 2007, the new domain registrar for .id extended the deadline to one month ahead. But I lazy enough to go to the bank since I broke my KeyBCA to transact electronically via internet via klikbca for my BCA bank account. So I must go to the bank to transfer the money.

But fortunately, when I tried to call PANDI, Indonesian .id domain registrar at their new address, allowed me to pay with cash. And I also ask if we don’t pay now, they still keep our domain for next three months. After 3 months, your domain will not be available and deactivated. Maybe it will open to anyone who want to register your old domain name, because we know that domain registration system will be first come first serve.

So, this information will useful if you’re so busy and can’t transfer and pay .id domain for whatever reason. Your domain still be safe for next 3 months. But I don’t want to choose this way. I’ll finish the payment today at PANDI’s new office.

Windows 7 alias MinWin: A Windows Vista Replacement

Talking about the operating system batlles such as *NIX Family, DOS, Windows will never end. Open source and GPL enthusiasm realize that Windows Family operating system is their competitor. But Microsoft has prepared its newest prototype operating system with name: Windows 7 or MinWin in their internal projects.

Why MinWin? Why Windows 7? We know that almost all Microsoft Windows operating system use large storage, more RAM, better hardware, than the old one. But Microsoft realize them and want to make a next-generation operating system killer. Eric Traut of Microsoft present MinWin at ACM conference at University of Illinois, US, into a virtual machine with just 40 MB and when try to boot the OS, voila…. It was just use about 33 MB. For comparative, Vista User will need about 4 GB disk space and 5,000 files. But this MinWin is using 100 files and 25 MB disk space.

This future OS is predicted to be released on 2010.

Gadgets need to be bought

Sometimes people buy new gadget with simple reason. They are like fashion, new model, boring old gadget et cetera. But I prefer to buy some gadget for long time use, and of course to support my work. For example, until now I still use Siemens S55 which was released may be 5 years ago.

This list below is my hope that I can buy them someday.

  1. MacBook Pro with Leopard OS
  2. E90 Nokia Communicator

What the reasons? Wait…wait… Later I’ll give some review or updating this article.

My new laptop: HP Presario 3412

I was given a laptop from someone at somewhere to support my work. And I choose HP Presario 3412 with its AMD Processor. Why? Because I’m very impressed with AMD’s speed and new technology. The notebook essential kit for travellers and additional 512 MB RAM make this laptop enough for me and so total RAM is 1 GB. The notebook shop at Ratu Plaza cost me 8.49 million rupiahs.

The default operating system is Windows Vista Home Basic. Unfortunately I can’t explore much with new Microsoft Operating System since it’s too complex (accord to my humble opinion). I love using Windows XP, FreeBSD, Ubuntu/Debian/Fedora distribution. So the new laptop make me more headache.

I’m dreaming using FreeBSD desktop and trying to install on it. But what happen? Since the box is using AMD Turion X2 64 bit, and I installed FreeBSD 64 bit. It fail, fail and fail…

Then second probation was installing FreeBSD i386 for old 32 bit operating system. And I got different error message. Because I want a native FreeBSD OS on my laptop, and you know, finally i give up at this time. I currently using both Vista and Ubuntu using GRUB loader.

Until now, I still can’t use FreeBSD and remove all Vista OS. Because Vista has complete drivers and guided me what driver can’t be load on other OS. And second, my Indosat’s 3G internet Connection which using ZTE 3G Modem, just has software drivers on Vista/XP. The experiment on Ubuntu 7.10 has not give any solutions yet.

Blogging again and server uptime

Long time ago I didn’t update this blog. The last article told about my server uptime. But today I try to check again using uptime command on my linux box. Here is the result:

[koro@server ~]$ uptime
19:59:32 up 441 days, 3 min, 1 user, load average: 0.00, 0.00, 0.00

Yeah, it’s 441 days…

Hopefully no power blackout from State Power Plant (PLN) and no problem with the power supply again on this server. I just want to make it happen with 1000 days server uptime!
